Dr. Hughes is a senior scientist and science team group leader at Orion Space Solutions with a strong background in both engineering and physics. This has allowed him to work on a diverse set of programs ranging from Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) and GNSS reflectometry to measure ocean tides all the way up in altitude to the Martian thermosphere. He has been a part of dozens of separate projects, many of which as a PI. His primary research thrusts are 1) understanding how to measure and model the ionosphere to better predict HF propagation and 2) hunting for signatures of space objects in the ionosphere.
