Shiv Sharma is currently working as a tenured Professor in the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is on the Graduate Faculty of the Department of Earth Sciences, and Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering. He joined the University of Hawaii in 1980 after completing his Post-Doctoral training at the Geophysical Laboratory of Carnegie Institution of Washington, Washington, D.C. In 1973, Shiv was awarded with Ph. D. degree in Physics by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. His research interests are in the applications of active spectroscopic techniques including standoff time-resolved Raman, LIBS and laser-induced luminescence spectroscopy for analyzing the Earth and planetary materials. He is currently serving as a Co-I for SuperCam instrument on NASA’s MARS2020 Rover Mission, and also for micro-Raman Instrument on ESA’s Exo-Mars Mission. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Science, India, a Fellow of Mineralogical Society of America and a Fellow of Society for Applied Spectroscopy. He is life member of AGU, and a senior member of Optical Society of America, and SPIE.
