Dr. Christopher Chini joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2023 as a climate research scientist. Chris’s research interests includes energy and water systems, infrastructure resilience, climate adaptation and mitigation, and network modeling. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously, Chris was an assistant professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) from 2019-2023 where he taught courses in data analytics, geospatial information systems and analysis, and infrastructure asset management—focusing on the role data plays in management and decision-making under uncertainty. In his role at AFIT, Chris interfaced with many DOD entities including the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, SAF/IEE, and US Army Corps of Engineers Research Laboratories. At PNNL, Chris has worked on projects on climate exposure, food security, and energy-water connections.

Chris is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineer’s Environmental Water Resources and the American Geophysical Union, hosting and moderating research sessions at each society’s premiere conference. Chris is an associate editor for the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management and is on the editorial board for Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability.
