The Rock Valley Direct Comparison (RV/DC) experiment will use chemical explosions at a depth of 2km near the hypocenter of a past earthquake to compare how underground explosions and earthquakes generate seismic waves. We use numerical modeling combining codes for the near-source and seismic regimes respectively, and we will explore how the in-situ stress state expected at different depths affects the generation of shear waves. We will measure P to S ratio, the amount of Love wave on surface seismic stations and perform source inversion.
