Poor air quality is a major and growing public health challenge around the world. Advanced warning of poor air quality can prompt action to save lives. The NASA Goddard Earth Observing System Composition Forecast (GEOS-CF) can forecast key air pollutants relevant to predicting air quality and its impacts around the world. This presentation gives an overview of several NASA-funded efforts which use GEOS-CF to support the needs of air quality forecasters globally. These efforts incorporate GEOS-CF with other complementary datasets, for example, satellite data or air quality monitors operated by local air quality management agencies. Drawing on experience from these efforts, we will summarize key takeaways and lessons learned and discuss challenges and opportunities for broader use of GEOS-CF to support air quality management and forecasting worldwide.
