The Apophis Explorer (OSIRIS-APEX) spacecraft will use the energy of its thruster engines to probe the asteroid Apophis. How the loose material on the asteroid surface responds to being blasted by thrusters will help scientists understand how we might alter its course if it, or an asteroid like it, were to be pose an impact threat to Earth.
