We use geochemical models to study how waters that form chloride deposits may have evolved on Mars. These models were run under a range of environmental conditions that could have existed on the planet in the past. Through our models we gain insights into the types of conditions that may have favored the formation of present-day chloride deposits - which, in turn, places important constraints on the conditions surrounding the last instances of stable liquid on Mars' surface.
