Current remote sensing technologies struggle to collect atmospheric data above 30 km's due to the low concentration of extant aerosol species. Rarefied is developing small devices that can fly in the upper half of Earth's atmosphere using only sunlight. By using these devices as backscattering targets for existing remote sensing, our aim is to enable low-cost wind, temperature, and pressure measurement in an under-instrumented region of the atmosphere.
