The GRate science project focuses on understanding changes in the Greenland Ice Sheet over the last 11,600 years in order to better model future responses to our changing climate in the ice sheet which has implications for all of us. A key component of the project has been a commitment to bring the science into classrooms, engaging students in the critical task of understanding Earth’s climate history through the lens of polar research. By analyzing real-world data collected by early-career scientists working in Greenland, the curriculum builds student data literacy and emphasizes the importance of synthesizing multiple lines of evidence in our research. Students work on different parts of the project, just as the scientists do to develop an understanding of the Greenland’s ice sheet in the past.
