Annually, participants in the EarthScope summer internship program experience a hands-on, weeklong orientation in seismology. For the active-source seismology component we adapted a well-known, two-dimensional, seismic reflection processing software package: Seismic Unix. The newly developed graphical user interface SeismicUnixGui (SUG) encourages critical understanding of the seismic data by facilitating interactive testing of geophysical parameters. SUG software is free, open-source and runs on Linux-based systems such as Ubuntu or the Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux. SUG for Windows Desktop and older Apple PC platforms that use AMD/Intel processors, is distributed as a Docker image. The code is accompanied by an installation manual, a demonstration field data set collected by student interns, and a tutorial with examples of the working scripts employed by the students to process the data during orientation week.
