A multidisciplinary research cruise over Hunga volcano (Tonga) in 2024 has revealed a crater much deeper than previously thought was excavated during the catastrophic eruption of January 2022. Water column measurements show how a high-level of sustained heat flow is escaping from the volcano more than two years after the eruption.
