This study investigates how farmers’ irrigation water needs might change under five possible post-2026 water management plans proposed by the Bureau of Reclamation. We use a combined modeling approach that links the Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS) with an agent-based model (ABM) to study both water availability and how farmers adjust their water use. The ABM predicts how farmers may change their irrigation practices in response to shifting reservoir operations, climate changes, and new policies. By analyzing irrigation demand at the basin, sub-basin, and state levels, this study offers practical insights into how future water policies could affect agriculture, and it points to strategies for improving water conservation and efficiency across the CRB.
