Extracting critical minerals (CM), including rare earth elements (REE), from coal in the United States is one method to help reduce the county’s overreliance on imported CM and REE. This abstract presents the results of a regional analysis of the U.S. Gulf Coast lignite and bituminous coal resources that might be available as potential sources of REE and CM.
