SH21E-2550: The energy distribution of heated and accelerated pickup Ions at the termination shock and in the heliosheath
Author(s): Joe Giacalone, University of Arizona (First Author, Presenting Author)
We predict the energy distribution of protons in the outer heliosphere using numerical simulations. This energy distribution is directly related to the production of neutral atoms which move large distances in the solar system, carrying information of their source, and are measured by spacecraft such as IBEX, Cassini/INCA, and IMAP. These new simulations solve a previously noted discrepancy and provide important predictions to be tested by IMAP.
