Historical crop nutrient budgets help identify hotspot areas of excessive nitrogen and highlight “low-hanging fruit” opportunities for nutrient reduction from land to water bodies. We evaluate the potential of adopting alternative management practices in these targeted areas to reduce nitrogen loading.
