The isotopes of oxygen and carbon preserved in carbonate sediments in the Campbell Basin record climate change from the Warm House climate of 50 million years ago to the Cool House climate of 25 million years ago. The oxygen isotopes indicate that cool ocean conditions were associated with lower oxygen sediments at intermediate water depths. The carbon isotopes demonstrate that biogeochemical cycling and marine productivity were impacted by the climate cooling.
