As we build more renewable energy systems such as wind and solar, these systems themselves are becoming more vulnerable to extreme weather. Events like heatwaves, flooding, and hurricanes can damage equipment and shorten its lifespan. This project explores how we can use satellite data and new technologies like virtual reality to protect renewable energy systems from climate risks and help communities plan for the future. Earth Mission Control is an immersive, virtual reality platform that helps decision-makers experience different climate futures. Instead of long reports or complicated charts, users can step into a virtual world where they see how decisions about energy and climate play out. The goal of this project is to make complex science easier to understand and use in making decisions.
