The recently launched TRACERS spacecraft instrument suite includes a fluxgate magnetometer. The magnetometer instrument measures the magnetic field perturbations associated with both large-scale and wave-like currents that flow into and out of the ionosphere. Measuring these perturbations allows us to remote sense processes happening at the magnetopause, where the solar wind interacts with the Earth’s magnetic field.
