Managing water resources in the Limpopo River Basin is becoming more difficult due to climate change and growing demands. To support better decisions, a digital platform has been developed that uses the Open Data Cube (ODC)—an open-source technology that helps organize and analyze large amounts of satellite data over time and space. This system allows users to easily track important environmental indicators like irrigation patterns and vegetation health. These insights are essential for drought monitoring, farming, and water planning. With ODC, the platform can automatically process and update new satellite images, making sure that the information is current and ready for use when needed.
ODC also supports user-friendly services like online maps, standard tools for analysis, and secure data management. Custom applications have been built to help users manage these datasets with proper access controls.
By using ODC, the project provides a flexible and scalable solution to manage environmental data, helping countries in the basin coordinate more effectively and plan for a more sustainable future.
