Many university science programs expect students to know Calculus before they arrive, but only about half of U.S. high schools offer it. In Brazil, access is even lower. To tackle this barrier, we created a public engagement program where scientists, teachers, and undergraduate students worked together to deliver a free, intensive Calculus course for high school girls. The course combined interactive math instruction, coding tutorials, and community activities. The model broadened STEM participation and created new training and teaching opportunities for scientists, students, and local educators.
