Lightning is a grave danger in Bangladesh and is a big property destroyer and unfortunately it is also claiming lives of about 300 people annually particularly to the rural farm settlements. Our study aimed at enhancing the prediction of such devastating lightning activities.
These were the most historically important thunderstorms that took place during the time span 2020-2023 and they were re-created with the help of top tier weather model. We experimented with a lot of model settings to find a way of making a better rainfall prediction and got one combination that worked better than the rest. We then tested the model in lightning predictions of lightning in two folds; first dealing with the height of the cloud and the other being Lightning Potential Index that considers the factors of cloud and updraughts.
The model has been capable of identifying significant lightning prone regions. The Lightning Potential Index was used which could show extremely precise places that would have lightning strikes. The significance of the development of the models into much better and applicable models of lightning forecast regarding disaster preparedness with impact of saving lives in Bangladesh
