A cross-section of the lightning physics and meteorology community has recently taken interest in a grand challenge to build an integrated lightning model. The model is envisioned as the first end-to-end predictive model connecting meteorology, lightning discharge physics, and observation simulation. A workshop was recently held at Texas Tech University to determine tangible deliverables over the next 1 to 3 years to enable community realization of the model’s framework. This presentation will provide an update on workshop outcomes and next steps.
