The National Structure Inventory (NSI) has an established RESTful Automated Programming Interface (API) for interacting with the NSI data. The NSI API 2.0 seeks to break the boundaries of the current NSI API to allow for user uploads of inventories to create a clearing house of inventory data through a RESTful API. The new API will require standard fields for standard attributes that all inventories should share but it will allow users to define schema’s for unique fields in their inventories to support additional use cases specific to user’s needs. The API will allow for inventory level access control so that a user can restrict access of an uploaded inventory as well as field level access control to restrict access of private fields to a sub group of those who have inventory level access. This new API will set the stage for large scale sharing and improvement of inventories across a diverse set of user groups.
