Current research on the Mississippi River Delta shows that the current volume of sediment flowing down the Mississippi River is unable to sustain the above water portion of the delta or the underwater portion of the delta. The purpose of this study is to explore and document the changes to the portion of the underwater delta that is offshore of Pass a Loutre. Sediment cores and geophysical data are the primary methods by which our analysis is conducted. We have observed sediment accumulation rates significantly less than historical sediment accumulation values.
