This study used a special analysis method (Self-Organising Map - SOM) to understand how chlorophyll-a (Chl-a, indicating marine plant life) varied in the Bay of Bengal over 22 years (2000-2022). The analysis identified nine distinct patterns ('provinces') of Chl-a distribution. While minimum levels stayed around 1.0 mg/m³, maximum levels varied significantly between these patterns, reaching up to 6.3 mg/m³ in the most productive areas. Strong differences existed between coastal and offshore waters, and from north to south.
