This presentation showcases the unique nighttime observing capabilities of the VIIRS Day/Night Band low-light visible sensor in the contexts of 1) examining nocturnal clouds, 2) exploring marine bioluminescence, and 3) revealing major power outages. We highlight the transformative impacts from this one-of-a-kind measurement while looking toward the future of basic to applied research opportunities in the Science of the Night.
