Coastal areas where the land meets the sea are difficult to map precisely, yet they change frequently due to tides, waves, and storms. This research tested multiple advanced technologies—aerial drones, sonar robot boats, and laser scanners—to create detailed maps of shallow, turbid-water shorelines in Delaware and Maryland. We found that no single method works everywhere; each coastal environment needs tailored mapping strategies. Our findings help guide how to improve mapping these challenging coastal zones to support better environmental management and protect coastal communities.
