This study identifies where communities in Mississippi are most at risk from flooding and least prepared to respond. By combining local data on housing, health, income, infrastructure, and government capacity with future flood projections, we created a statewide map showing where gaps in flood readiness are most pronounced. Some counties and neighborhoods face both high flood risk and limited capacity to act, highlighting areas where additional support could have the greatest impact. To assist local planners in targeting interventions, this research will result in the development of an open-source, interactive and intuitive dashboard that visualizes these vulnerable areas.
