The mineral schreibersite is uncommon on the Earth but found in many meteorites and lunar rocks. Schreibersite is capable of recording magnetic information but its fundamental magnetic properties have not been fully studied. We performed many different magnetic experiments on different types of schreibersite, including those we created in the laboratory as well as those from two meteorites, all of which have different nickel content. In addition to studying schreibersite at room temperature, we also studied how its magnetic properties change as temperature decreases and increases. We present our results from these experiments as well as our analysis of how schreibersite may affect the magnetic records in extraterrestrial samples, especially during demagnetization experiments that aim to uncover the magnetic history of lunar rocks. We also present results from computer simulations of the magnetic properties of extremely small individual grains of schreibersite in different shapes and lengths.
