C51B-0349: Updated Rates of Ice Loss, Segmentation and Average Ice Velocities, Thicknesses and Elevations for Glaciers on Southern Ellesmere, Northwestern Devon and North Kent Islands
We present information collected from more than 50 years of satellite images to show how the areas of glaciers have been changing in a remote part of the Canadian Arctic (Ellesmere, North Kent, Devon islands; see image of southwestern Sydkap ice cap). Our work documents the disappearance of 73 small glaciers during that time, and the separation of 35 larger glaciers into almost 100 smaller ones. Our work is important for trying to understand how future warming will continue to reduce the size of glaciers in the Canadian Arctic.
