The sustainability of research data facilities is a major concern of the science community in times of drastically reduced funding for science, even though science relies increasingly on access to well-curated data. Data facilities have developed sustainability plans that are now put to the test. This presentation will showcase plans developed and actions taken by the NSF-funded IEDA2 data facility to prepare for a more efficient and effective operation in times of reduced funding. In order to prepare to operate with limited resources, IEDA2 plans to reconfigure and restructure its portfolio, in part to better respond to business opportunities; make changes to its architecture and curation procedures to reduce costs; build partnerships to leverage capabilities; and test business models. Over the next year, IEDA2 will implement a streamlined and more automated data submission and review pipeline; consolidate systems; and offer services for fee.
