This session explores water use and impacts across economic sectors that have either been traditionally difficult to quantify or are rapidly evolving with significant water implications. While agriculture remains the dominant global water user, other sectors collectively account for substantial water demands. We welcome contributions examining:Water footprints of transformative and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence infrastructure, data centers, critical mineral extraction Approaches for improving water use estimates in sectors such as industrial processes, mining operations, energy production, and buildingsInnovative monitoring technologies, modeling frameworks, and data collection strategies to enhance water accounting in these sectorsWater management in these sectors, including regulatory challenges, water rights, and market mechanismsInterconnections and tradeoffs between water use across these sectors, including virtual water embedded in supply chains and life cycle assessmentsThis session aims to build a more comprehensive understanding of sectoral water dynamics beyond agriculture.
