Forest ecosystems are being increasingly recognized by their pivotal positions in global carbon cycling, biodiversity conservation, climate, and ecosystem services provision. Significant progress has been made over recent years in empirical data collection methods and modeling techniques used to investigate forest ecosystem processes across a range of climatic conditions and levels of management intensity. This session seeks to compile multidisciplinary research. Contributions are invited on topics including novel monitoring advancements, recent improvements in modeling frameworks, integration of empirical information and new modeling approaches, integration of climate change effects on forest disturbances, role of agroforestry systems, and evaluation of climate change adaptation as well as climate change mitigation strategies. By emphasizing empirical data use and modeling advances, the session aims to provoke an academic discussion on recent challenges and practical measures that inform sustainable forest management and conservation policy in the context of climate and global change uncertainties.
