Boundary layer clouds are a key element in Earth's coupled system. Their response and feedback to changes in the atmosphere and underlying surface is a leading source of uncertainty in projecting future changes in Earth's radiation budget and water cycle. This session provides a platform for observational, theoretical, and modeling work on liquid, ice, and mixed-phase boundary layer clouds from microscale to regional and global scales. We welcome contributions that explore how these clouds interact with other components of Earth’s coupled system in the context of evolving atmospheric circulation, temperature, humidity, and composition. Topics of interest also include interactions between natural and anthropogenic aerosols and clouds, cloud connections to land and ocean/ice surface processes, and implications for radiation, turbulence, convection, precipitation, and circulation.
