Coastal ecosystems that include coastal wetlands, estuaries and coral reefs are among the most productive ecosystems of the Earth. They play a critical role in providing many ecosystem products and services but still at increasing risk due to the immediate impacts of anthropogenic activities, as well as long-term consequences of global warming and sea-level rise. Remote sensing data, products and tools provide increasing capabilities for studying these less accessible coastal wetland ecosystems in a wide range of applications. This session highlights innovative approaches that integrate remotely sensed data and products in a wide range of applications to evaluate coastal ecosystem issues as they relate to land-use/ land cover change, human- and climate induced disturbances, ecosystem resilience, spatial and temporal patterns and dynamics of coastal ecosystem products, services, and conditions. We welcome submissions from researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders investigating coastal ecosystem issues from any geographic region and across many disciplines.
