In early 2025, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released the report, Forecasting the Ocean: The 2025-2035 Decade of Ocean Science. The purpose of the report is to provide advice on how to focus investments in ocean research, infrastructure, and workforce to meet national and global challenges in the coming decade and beyond. In doing so, the report sets out an overarching challenge for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the broader research community to establish a new paradigm for forecasting the state of the ocean at scales relevant to human well-being within three distinct but overarching themes:  Ocean and Climate, Ecosystem Resilience, and Extreme Events. This townhall will serve two purposes: dissemination on the key takeaways from the 2025 report, “Forecasting the Ocean: The 2025-2035 Decade of Ocean Science”, and a panel discussion on opportunities to forge new partnerships directed towards achieving the goals of the next decade, at the public and private level. The townhall will have a complimentary online component for submitting feedback or questions to the panelists. The event will be of interest to the broad AGU community and specifically within the following sections: Ocean Sciences, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, and Science and Society.

Cross-Listed:
