Coordinated advances in the methods and technologies available to model, measure and monitor direct and indirect agricultural N2O emissions are urgently needed if we are to reduce emissions of this ozone-depleting greenhouse gas. These advances have occurred in the past through research supported by multiple organizations and teams in the public and private sectors. Greater coordination across fields, scales and sectors is necessary for further progress. This town hall will focus on discussing key research priorities in N2O modelling and MMRV to be included in a N2O research roadmap, and ensure that the N2O research roadmap sets out how to make meaningful progress towards quantifiable emissions reductions in the near future. The aim of the session is to broaden input into the roadmap and seed deeper discussion on what’s necessary to advance agricultural N2O measurement, monitoring, and management. This research roadmap is intended as a tool to support advocacy for a coordinated N2O research agenda and build momentum in public and private arenas for verifiable N2O emissions reductions.
