Fieldwork is a cornerstone of geoscience and related disciplines that often requires working and living in team-based, non-traditional or remote environments. Exposure to new or adverse situations can introduce risks and challenges related to safety, harassment, and interpersonal dynamics. This session brings the science community together to share tools, insights and experiences related to field safety training, risk assessment, and team culture development. We welcome contributions including, but not limited to: case studies and best practices for risk management approaches including support strategies in field environments for all identities; practical tools for improving field safety and group dynamics, reducing interpersonal risk and harassment, and promoting a welcoming field space; broadening participation in field-based research through team culture-building strategies; assessing effectiveness of field safety and anti-harassment training programs. By convening voices from across the geosciences, we will facilitate discussions and knowledge exchange to drive positive change in fieldwork environments.
