Primary Convener:
David Lawrence, NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research

This Town Hall aims to introduce both new and existing users of the Community Earth System Model (CESM) to the significantly updated CESM3. Developed over the past five years by the CESM development community, CESM3 incorporates major updates to all model components, including the atmosphere, land, ocean, sea ice, and land ice components. The Town Hall will provide detailed descriptions of the new modeling capabilities in CESM3 and a comprehensive review of the model's performance across a wide range of metrics. Additionally, plans for community simulations will be presented, encompassing contributions to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP7), a next-generation large ensemble, and Earth System prediction experiments. We will actively solicit input on additional simulations that would be of broad interest to the community.Furthermore, the Town Hall will facilitate discussions regarding the future direction of the CESM activity. Attendee feedback on user priorities will be gathered to help shape the future development and focus of CESM.
