Complex topography, coupled with environmental extremes and underlying socioeconomic vulnerability, amplifies disaster risks in South and Southeast Asia. Observational records and model simulations indicate intensifying impacts of natural hazards such as floods, droughts, wildfires and heatwaves. Data scarcity in the region presents significant challenges but also opens opportunities for innovation in risk analyses, modeling, and predictions. Despite considerable advances in hydrologic and hydrometeorological research in recent decades, key gaps remain in data integration and interdisciplinary synthesis. A persistent challenge lies in synthesizing fragmented knowledge across disciplines and geographic scales. This session intends to provide a collective perspective on (i) current trends in hydrologic disaster risk research, (ii) innovative approaches to address data gaps, and (iii) emerging research opportunities in hydrology and environmental science within the region. We welcome abstracts from researchers both within and outside the region, particularly those offering interdisciplinary insights or novel methodological contributions.
