The linkages between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems are a critical and yet understudied component of the global carbon cycle. Terrestrial sources (both natural and anthropogenic) of inorganic and organic carbon often dominate stream inputs, serving as a primary source of energy to aquatic food webs, yet transformations of carbon across this interface remain poorly described. This session will explore the methods and approaches to quantifying carbon contributions across the land-water continuum.We invite submissions that investigate the interface of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems with respect to the transformation and transport of carbon-containing gasses and material. Laboratory and field observations, experiments, and modeling studies from natural and human managed ecosystems across all latitudes are welcome. We are particularly interested in contributions that use multiple modes of inquiry (e.g. geochemical characterization, fluxes, microbiome characterization, modeling) and/or work across multiple spatial scales (e.g. pore space to catchment, first order stream to continent).
