A strong coastal research community is vital to address growing challenges faced by coastal communities, industries, and ecosystems. A crucial problem is the lack of access points for training a regionally expansive coastal workforce, vital to address these complex problems. We will gather presenters across the coastal workforce pipeline to address: the critical role of early engagement; strategies for success in and out of academia; identifying systemic barriers and challenges hindering broad achievement; models that promote access to education and training to support the coastal workforce pipeline. This session will encourage dialogue, sharing insights, and collaboration on strategies to harness the strengths of varied backgrounds and experiences to build a more resilient and effective coastal workforce. We encourage submissions from all coastal education and training programs, and hope to build on and expand from recent initiatives of the Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
