Shallow marine sedimentary archives hold crucial information on climate varaibility, ecosystem stability, coastal erosion, sea ice variability, and climate-tectonic interactions. In addition, shallow marine regions are of key environmental and economic interest today. They are projected to be severely affected by climatic changes threatening global diversity hot spots and key natural resources essential for human survival. Studying the impact of global change on these environments is therefore critical to understanding, predicting, and ultimately mitigating the environmental and socio-economic impact of these changes. In this session, we thus wish to shine a spotlight on the recent scientific advancements based on archives generated from these areas. We welcome contributions from all fields of geosciences working on recent to deep time (i.e. Precambrian) shallow marine archives. We encourage contributions on new proxy/method development and data-model comparisons, aiming to foster new research directions to better understand these significant marine regions.
