Resilient landscapes and soil quality and health are critical for maintaining healthy ecosystems in the tropical regions. However, deforestation, expansion of agriculture and changing weather patterns exacerbate soil erosion, changes in nutrient cycling and soil carbon sequestration, leading to depleted resources. We need science-based understanding of the drivers of ecosystem change that can help elucidate key vulnerabilities. We request submissions that advance the linkages and feedback between climate, land use and soil health in the tropics, particularly at the interface of agricultural and natural landscapes. We also seek submissions that provide tested solutions for how to maintain resilient agricultural systems while minimizing land cover change in the tropics. Examples topics of interest include: how does land use/land cover change influence soil conditions? How do climate and land use interactively influence soil properties and functions? What are the appropriate policy instruments and practices for ensuring sustainable ecosystem management?
