Fieldwork in cryosphere (Arctic, Antarctic, Alpine) regions is remote, logistically challenging, and expensive. Conditions can be harsh with little to no nearby infrastructure or outside communications. Yet, cryosphere fieldwork is crucial as these represent the most rapidly changing systems on Earth while being data poor. Conducting high-quality and sustainable cryosphere fieldwork requires making that experience safe, enjoyable, and welcoming for all. During this session, we hope to have conversations envisioning an improved cryosphere field culture and how to minimize barriers to entry. Potential topics can include best practices for field safety and well-being, reflections on field experiences, and suggestions for improvements. We invite submissions from all attendees involved with fieldwork in cryosphere regions, including but not limited to: students, field workers, professional organizations, field station representatives, project PIs, local (including indigenous) community representatives, and safety and logistics professionals. Abstract submissions are open to work and reflections beyond the published literature.
