The escalating impact of natural hazards like earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, floods, and wildfires, driven by climate change and expanding urbanization, demands novel approaches for risk reduction. An understanding of subsurface characteristics and processes is critical to effectively and efficiently mitigate risks. This session highlights the transformative potential of integrating near-surface geophysics with emerging technologies. We invite submissions demonstrating innovative applications of geophysical methods, combined with Earth system modeling, machine learning algorithms, and cutting-edge sensor networks and analytics, to investigate, monitor, and ultimately mitigate natural hazard risks. By bringing together researchers pushing the boundaries of geophysical hazard assessment, this session will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and advance our capacity to protect vulnerable communities and infrastructure.
