Nitrogen (N) plays a critical role in the Earth system, influencing climate directly through nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions and indirectly via aerosol formation, ozone production, and its coupling with the carbon cycle. As atmospheric N₂O levels continue to rise, substantial gaps remain in our understanding and prediction of N2O sources and sinks, spatiotemporal patterns, and N-climate feedbacks. This session invites innovative research that address these gaps, advances global and national assessments of the N₂O budget, and illuminate the complex interplay among nitrogen, carbon, and climate. We welcome contributions leveraging atmospheric inversions, process-based modeling (terrestrial, aquatic, and oceanic), remote sensing, machine learning/artificial intelligence, isotope tracing, field observations, benchmarking frameworks and datasets. Multi-disciplinary and cross-scale approaches are particularly encouraged. This session aligns with international initiatives such as the Global Nitrous Oxide Budget, RECCAP3, and UNFCCC Global Stocktake, with the aim of strengthening the scientific foundations for climate mitigation and sustainable nitrogen management.
