The hydrology of coastal environments is closely linked to terrestrial, marine, atmospheric, and human systems. To better understand coastal hydrology today and in the future, it is essential to recognize these systematic connections. Such understanding is vital for improving water resource and supply planning, flood forecasting, water quality predictions, and ecosystem management and restoration. This session invites submissions that explore the impact of natural processes and human activities on coastal hydrology, hydrogeology, and ecohydrology. Example topic areas include: flow and exchange of surface and groundwater in coastal watersheds; hydrologic controls on sediment supply and salinity; response of geomorphological and biogeochemical processes to hydrological forcings; nutrient and chemical fluxes to coastal surface waters; deltaic ecosystem response to changing hydrologic controls, including sea level rise; impacts of compound extremes, such as hurricane-driven flooding, atmospheric rivers and droughts; effects of excessive groundwater withdrawals and contamination; climate change impacts on coastal aquifers.
