Informal settlements represent complex urban challenges that require innovative, evidence-based interventions. This session will explore how emerging technologies—including AI, big data analytics, and advanced sensing platforms— monitor, detect potential risks, and provide critical empirical insights of informal settlements to guide policy decisions. By embedding intelligent technology within urban contexts, these approaches yield granular, up-to-date data reflecting the unique human and environmental characteristics of each community. Attendees will understand how to effectively utilize technological innovations to drive informed, data-driven analyses and management aimed at improving living conditions, enhancing urban resilience, and addressing socio-economic disparities in informal settlements globally.
