Community colleges often provide the first higher education experience for students; many of whom transfer to universities. The objective of this session is to create a space for community college and university attendees to connect and share strategies for supporting the unique populations served within the community college-university transfer process. We are interested in research questions that address how to best cultivate a sense of belonging and encourage persistence within STEM, for example: (1) How can we strengthen the community college/university pipeline? (2) What are strategies to bridge educational gaps for lower division students, for example in foundational mathematics? (3) What are techniques for supporting students who had online education during formative social and academic years? (4) Are you completing research with community college and/or transfer students (e.g. CURE’s, ITYC)? (5) How can we use programmatic strategies to support these students (e.g. mentorship, campus visits, experiential learning, faculty professional development)?
